Yeztugo | FAQs

Our medical experts at OSRA Medical are here to answer some of your most common questions about Yeztugo for injectable PrEP. Have a question not listed here? Give us a call to schedule your appointment.

Yeztugo represents a seismic shift in HIV prevention. Imagine robust protection against HIV with just two quick injections per year—no daily pills, no monthly appointments. After a simple one-time initiation (two injections plus 4 tablets taken over 2 days), you return only every six months for another injection. It’s ideal for busy workers, travelers, or anyone weary of pill routines. Clinical trials showed near-perfect effectiveness—zero HIV infections in women, and 99.9% protection across genders.

Yeztugo is for HIV-negative adults and adolescents weighing at least 77 lbs. We proudly serve all genders and sexual orientations.

Avoid Yeztugo if…

  1. If you have HIV
  2. If you’re allergic to Lenacapavir
  3. If you can’t commit to twice-yearly HIV testing

Day 1:

  • We’ll confirm you’re HIV-negative through rapid testing.
  • You’ll receive two small injections (typically in the abdomen or thigh) and take two tablets here at our San Francisco clinic.

Day 2:

  • Take two tablets at home.

Every 6 Months:

  • Return for two quick injections. The whole visit takes <30 minutes.

Out of town during an injection appointment? Don’t panic. Bridge the gap with tablets until you’re back on schedule.

Most people tolerate Yeztugo without experiencing major side effects. You might notice:

  • Temporary injection-site reactions like a small lump, redness, or mild tenderness lasting a few days. This means your body is responding to the injection!
  • Occasional headache or nausea (less than 15% of users).

Rare but serious risks (seek us immediately):

  • Allergic reactions (trouble breathing, mouth swelling)
  • Liver issues (yellow skin, dark urine)
  • Before every injection: HIV rapid test (takes 10 minutes at our clinic).
  • Annual screenings: Full STI panel, kidney/liver function, hepatitis.

Remember: Yeztugo prevents HIV but not other STIs. Other sexual health practices like condoms and regular STI testing remain essential for your whole-body health.

Absolutely! Transitioning is seamless:

  • From daily pills: Start Yeztugo on your last pill day.
  • From Apretude: Get your first Yeztugo injection 2 months after your last Apretude shot.
