Reuters reported on June 18 that this groundbreaking twice-yearly injection from Gilead Sciences—has been approved by the FDA for HIV prevention under the name Yeztugo!

Our team has been researching this revolutionary new drug use and informing you about its progress along the way to approval, and now that it’s here, we’re preparing to bring this revolutionary PrEP option to our clients in and near San Francisco.

Developed by Gilead Sciences, lenacapavir is a long-acting antiretroviral drug already approved in multiple countries for HIV treatment under the brand Sunlenca. Now, it will be sold for HIV prevention under the name Yeztugo.

Now, Yeztugo is set to add even more flexibility to HIV prevention with just 2 subcutaneous injections (administered in the abdomen) every 6 months. This makes Yeztugo the first PrEP prescription designed for bi-annual dosing.

Recent Phase III trials (which began in 2021) have delivered some extraordinary results:

• PURPOSE 1 trials showed: 100% efficacy and zero HIV infections among participants receiving LEN in sub-Saharan Africa.
• PURPOSE 2 trials shows: 96% reduction in HIV incidence amongst cis men, trans, & non-binary individuals across 4 continents.

The data shows that injectable lenacapavir proved 89% more effective than daily oral PrEP options like (Truvada/Descovy), which shows the real-world advantage of an injectable versus an easy-to-forget daily pill. This means fewer clinic visits and more privacy and control over your HIV prevention journey.
